Modigliani - French Trailer

Image via Wikipedia

Farrah Fawcett, "Charlie's Angels"

Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day

Stallone to be honoured at Venice Film Festival

(AFP) – 1 day ago

ROME — US actor and film director Sylvester Stallone will receive a top prize at next month's Venice Film Festival, organisers said Wednesday.

The "Glory to the Filmmaker" award will honour a "very original filmmaker" whose films are "capable of tenderness even when dripping with blood," the festival organisers said in a statement. His work "has explored the brightest and darkest areas of the American dream," they said.

"Being honoured at the Venice Film Festival is something I have always hoped would become a reality and now that it?s actually happened it?s been well worth the wait," said the legendary star of films such as Rocky and Rambo.

Extracts from Stallone's new film The Expendables will be shown during the award handover, which will be held during the closing ceremony of the festival.

The prize, which is given "to a person who has left a mark on contemporary cinema", has been won in the past by Japan's Takeshi Kitano, Iranian Abbas Kiarostami and France's Agnes Varda.

The jury at the 66th Venice Film Festival, which runs from 2 to 12 September, will be headed by Taiwanese director Ang Lee.

E a vida corre

30 over 30

Embracing the inevitable
Penélope Cruz Can't Wait to Grow Older

Keep the Botox away from Penélope Cruz

The Spanish beauty, 34, says she's not afraid of getting older – and even welcomes wrinkles and gray hair. "Age holds absolutely no fear for me," Cruz tells Britain's Cosmopolitan. "There is so much enjoyment ahead."

The Vicky Cristina Barcelona Oscar winner also says she looks up to Hollywood icons like Meryl Streep and Sophia Loren as examples on how to age exuberantly.

"Sophia is 74 and amazing – every time I talk to her, she’s full of wonderful stories about old actors."

Though the actress is comfortable with her looks and happy with the wisdom time brings, she admits she has insecurities like everybody else.

"I know myself a little bit more. Of course, some things remain a mystery and that is a search that never ends, but I wish I was less insecure," she says.

"I’ve always had my insecurities and most of them have not gone away. I guess we’re all vulnerable."

007 - Quantum of Solace Teaser Trailer Legendado

Vicky Cristina Barcelona Movie Review

Vicky Cristina Barcelona

A fine movie that is told like a story with a narrator. It is an intriguing and breezy movie.

The movie is about 'Vicky' (Rebecca Hall) & 'Cristina' (Scarlett Johansson) summer trip to 'Barcelona'. The sometimes uptight "cookie cutter type" Vicky is working on her thesis and is about to be married. Cristina is there to find herself again, after falling out of love in a relationship.

They both meet Juan Antonio ( the very sexy Javier Bardem) who wants to bed both of them, and he does, at different times.

Cristina ends up moving in with him, whilst Vicky can not stop thinking about him, when she is married. "Marie Elena", the ex-wife (Penelope Cruz) then enters the picture after trying to kill herself. She then steal's the movie as Cruz's fantastic performance is a reason alone to watch this movie, as I not being a Woody Allen 'fan' was drawn to the movie after rave reviews and her Oscar win. Their are a few more little suprises install for the intertwined relationships and I recommend this movie if you have not yet seen it.

Almodovar’s new film a tribute to his love of movies

The acclaimed Spanish director’s latest film reunites him with his long-time collaborator, Penelope Cruz.

Pedro Almodovar’s latest film, Broken Embraces (Los Abrazos Rotos), is a personal tribute to his love of movies, said the Spanish director earlier this month.

"It's a personal declaration, my declaration of love for the cinema," the cinema great said of the film, which features Penelope Cruz, who has starred in several Almodovar films.

The film, shot for 12 million euros (15.4 million dollars), is the costliest Almodovar has ever made. It recounts the tragic love affair between an ageing director who has turned blind and wants to make his swansong film and a young actress.

"My films represent my economic, emotional and artistic heritage," he said.

Almodovar and Cruz have collaborated with each other for over a decade with such films as Live Flesh, All About My Mother and Volver, for which the 34-year-old actress picked up an Oscar nomination in 2006.

Cruz, who this year became the first Spanish actress to win an Academy Award when she took the Oscar for her performance in the Woody Allen comedy Vicky Cristina Barcelona, thanked Almodovar in her acceptance speech. She expressed her gratitude towards Almodovar "for having made me part of so many of his adventures."

Spanish actress Penelope Cruz (L) and Spanish film director Pedro Almodovar pose during a photocall to present Almodovar's new film 'Los abrazos rotos' (Broken Embraces) in Madrid on 13 March 2009.

Cruz said her role in the new film was a difficult one.

"Its a very different personality from my own and very different from all the roles I have played before,” she said. Cruz plays “a survivor who I think always has a black cloud over her head."

Cruz also underscored her fondness and admiration for Almodovar.

"If I had to work with only one director for the rest of my life, it's clear to me that it would be him," she said. Almodovar is "someone who is very important in my career and in my life."
