Of Gods and Men leads nominations
With 11 nominations, Xavier Beauvois’s Of Gods and Men [trailer, film focus] dominates the list of nominees for the 2011 Césars, to be awarded on February 25.
Next in line are Roman Polanski’s The Ghost Writer [trailer] and Joann Sfar’s Je T’Aime, Moi Non Plus [trailer] with eight nominations each; Mathieu Amalric’s On Tour [trailer, film focus] (seven nominations); and Pascal Chaumeil’s Heartbreaker [trailer] (five nominations). These five features will vie for the Best Film César, alongside Michel Leclerc’s The Names of Love [trailer] (four nominations in total) and Benoît Delépine andGustave Kervern’s Mammuth [trailer, film focus] (three nominations).
There are also six nominations (mainly in the technical categories) for Bertrand Tavernier’s The Princess of Montpensier [trailer], four for François Ozon’s Potiche [trailer] and three for Olivier Assayas’s Carlos [trailer], Julie Bertuccelli’s The Tree [trailer, film focus], Bertrand Blier’s The Clink Of Ice [trailer] and Géraldine Nakache and Hervé Mimran’s All That Glitters [trailer].
Nominated 15 times before and crowned twice in 1981 and 1991, Gérard Depardieu (Mammuth) will compete for the 2011 Best Actor César against four thesps who have never won before: Romain Duris (Heartbreaker),Eric Elmosnino (Je T’Aime, Moi Non Plus), Jacques Gamblin (The Names of Love) and Lambert Wilson (Of Gods and Men).
Battling it out for Best Actress are two previous winners: Catherine Deneuve (Potiche) was crowned in 1981 and 1993, while Isabelle Carré (Romantics Anonymous [trailer]) won in 2003 before being nominated in 2004, 2006 and 2008. Other nominees are Sara Forestier (The Names of Love), Charlotte Gainsbourg (The Tree) and Kristin Scott Thomas (Her Name Was Sarah), who was nominated but didn’t win in 2009 and 2010.
Finally, Olivier Masset-Depasse’s Belgian film Illegal [trailer, film focus] is among the contenders for the Best Foreign Film César.
